The Baker
The Baker, is a short film that takes place in the town of Marshberg, where there has been an increase in burglaries taking place. The short follows a baker named Reuben, who attempts to solve these burglaries after falling victim to them. With this project, I was the director, scriptwriter, animator, and also helped as a colorist and clean up animator on some shots.
Prop Design and Color Swatches
We thought about the props that might be used in the short. Because he is a baker, we thought him using a frosting bag, or cookie pan at the beginning of the short, would be fun. We also thought of a prized medal that the gnomes would be after, that Reuben won during a baking competition.
I was responsible for the color variation of the two main characters, which is Reuben, and Detective Ricotta. We wanted to use gentle and soft colors on Reuben to make him feel more kind. We wanted to use a variation of darker and moody colors for Detective Ricotta to make him feel more mysterious.
Colorist and Clean Up shots
This shot I helped cleanup and color all (3) gnome characters. This was relatively difficult as all of them look similar but are different regarding what they're each wearing and facial hair.
This shot I helped cleanup and color. This shot was very fun with the smear-frames. I enjoyed coloring this as well especially with the two characters and shadows within the room.
